Thyroid Function Screening

Your thyroid function blood test at your IPSA clinic

Your thyroid gland, positioned at the base of your neck, is responsible for producing the hormone known as thyroxine. If you have an imbalance in thyroxine, it can be due to several factors such as an infection, pregnancy, an autoimmune issue or dietary deficiency.

If the level of thyroxine is high, then you might experience:

  • Anxiety
  • Sweats
  • Palpitations
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhoea
  • Tachycardia

If the level is low, then you might experience:

  • Tiredness
  • Hair loss
  • Fatigue
  • Dry skin

As thyroid disorders are quite common and can easily be managed, detection is of paramount importance. Having your thyroid function tests at your IPSA clinic will allow your IPSA clinician to see how well your thyroid gland is working, and, if required, you will be offered the appropriate treatment to manage any issues.
