Constipation

Constipation can affect people of all ages and is very common. It results in difficulty emptying the bowels, or passing hard or painful stools.

Constipation can be caused by not eating enough fibre, not drinking enough fluids or as a side-effect of certain medicines. It may also be related to an underlying medical condition.

If you have symptoms of constipation, such as tummy pain associated with bowel movements, incomplete emptying of the bowel, bloated stomach or diarrhoea, contact IPSA for medical advice.

Persistent constipation or changes in your bowel habits should always be investigated, particularly if you are over 40 years old.

Constipation Treatments at IPSA

At the IPSA clinic, our resident doctor can see you immediately in a clean, quiet environment.

We will give you an appointment at a time to suit you and you will have a full consultation to discuss all your symptoms.

Our doctor will give you a thorough examination to exclude any serious causes for the symptoms you are experiencing. We may recommend a full blood screen to rule out other conditions.

If we feel that blood tests are necessary, we can do this immediately and will discuss the results with you on a one-to-one basis.

During your consultation, the doctor will discuss different methods of treatment for your symptoms. Depending on these symptoms, we may offer you a range of medication to help control them.

The doctor will also go thorough diet and management at home, plus lifestyle changes you can make to minimise your IBS symptoms and help keep it under control.

If you need any further advice or support during your recovery process, our doctor will be available by phone on a seven-day basis.

We can give you a sick note during your consultation to cover absences from work if necessary.

If you have constipation, contact IPSA for a same-day appointment or book online for a consultation with an experienced doctor.
